SKETCH BOOKS: FUMAGE TRANSLATED INTO PRINT

Dogancay Star PrintThe "Broadway & Lafayette” Series of prints were produced from Doğançay's sketchbooks in an edition of 200 with each page bearing the artist’s signature. The prints are named after the subway station close to his studio in Soho. The Broadway–Lafayette subway station and the area around it inspired his famous series, New York Subway Walls  (1967-2002) and Blue Walls of New York (1998–2004).Doğançay used fumage, in which patterns and textures are made with smoke, and is one of the few contemporary artists to have extensively used the Surrealist technique.
